Tree Activist in Milton Montford: Congressman Cummings, Under Armour & More

On May 4th 2016 we were joined by Congressman Cummings, volunteers from Under Armour (UA), community members and tree activists to celebrate our organization's on-going efforts to "Transform Baltimore with Trees". This was a ceremony to celebrate the trees coming to the neighborhood of Milton Montford in east Baltimore. Dozens of volunteers, including 50 from Under Armour, helped us get 40 new street trees in the ground. UA volunteers partnered with BTT as part of their "Armour Day" event, a company-wide event and a day where employees give back to the community and work with local non-profits.

UAWe were also joined by some Baltimore TreeKeepers that volunteered their time to act as "team leaders" for the tree planting groups. TreeKeepers is a city-wide tree stewardship program open to anyone interested in Baltimore's trees. TreeKeepers promotes healthy trees by educating residents and increasing their role in the care of the city's trees. Through this training, citizens can become tree advocates and share the responsibility to plant and care for trees in their neighborhood and throughout the city. Also in attendance were photographers Peggy Fox and Ron Solomn who donated their time to help us capture the day's activities-THANK YOU!

11This event completed our spring planting for 2016 totaling 2,243 trees since the organization began planting in 2012 after being founded in 2009. Out of those 2,243 tree, 1,025 of them have been planted this year!

We want to give a BIG thank you to everyone that attended and helped make the event happen! Your support, generosity, and dedication to the work we do is vital to the overall success of the Baltimore Tree Trust.
