On March 31st 2016 the Baltimore Tree Trust, utilizing funding from the France-Merrick Foundation, partnered with Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center to plant new trees throughout the campus.
A total of 188 new trees were planted this spring, varieties include Redpointe Maple, October Glory Maple, Legacy Maple, Street Keeper Honeylocust, Bloodgood London Planetree, and Scarlet Oak. An additional 22 trees will be planted in the fall of 2016. The trees are located along the west side of campus along I-895, the north side along Lombard Street & Eastern Avenue, and around the parking garage on the east side of campus.
The trees will make a significant impact on the campus and for the city of Baltimore, increasing shade, adding to the aesthetics and beautification of the campus, reducing stromwater runoff, and improving air quality.
