Finally – Our First Volunteer Event in 2 Years!

October 19, 2021

This past Friday, we finally got to host our first Community Greening Day in almost 2 years! Big shout out to State Farm for sending out some of their hard-working employees to make the day a success. Together with our crew of Neighborhood Foresters, State Farm volunteers planted 18 native canopy trees around the playground and parking lot at Mary Ann Winterling Elementary School.

Rock bars and mattocks were a planter’s best friend as the tough soil gave us plenty to work against! Hardy species like Red Oak, Hackberry, Elm, and Sycamore were chosen to establish in the difficult growing conditions. They will be watered and maintained by Baltimore Tree Trust’s Neighborhood Forestry crews for the next 2 years. In doing so we are ensuring they continue to provide shade, beauty, and heat relief to students for years to come!

This event would not have been possible without TreeBaltimore and the generous support of the Arbor Day Foundation. To learn more about this fantastic organization and the Alliance for Community Trees network, learn more here.
